6. The Controllers - Stay - MCA, 1986 Reggie and Ricky, Leonard and Larry over a simple drum machine with cool and minimal stabs of synths, bells and strings. Lots of air and space and a strong slap bass, too. Shout out to P.B. Boeuf for hipping me to this one!

11. Freddie Jackson - Nice 'n' slow (Extended version) - Capitol, 1988 This 12" mix adds more emphasis to the super, super funky doubled guitars and laser synth effects. Sweet saxophone fills and sweet backbeat bass drum/bass synth coordination. Romantic late night banger!

Smooth boogie and BANGING slow jams compiled by the legendary unstoppable midnight rider & boogie ambassador. 100% original pressings, 100% VINYL, 100% DOPENESS! Captain Rapp, Major Harris and Colonel Abrams mixed by Comrade Chrelli. I called this a late 1980s mixtape, but it's more mid-to-late 1980s - a special sound that people listened to in the LATE 1980s! Not quite new jack swing yet, still boogie and with LOTS of ice-cold drum machines and sterile sounding synthesized horn sections. But still sounding so WARM! Tracklist + PLUS special new pictures of RECORDS below:
1. Vanessa Holmes and Chicago Nite Life - Take my love - Nuance, 1985 Great mid tempo groove with mad hand claps and insane Minnie Riperton-esque vocals towards the end.
2. Shara - Can't get over you - Greensleeves, 1986 Ca-ca-can't, ca-ca-can't-can't! Lots and lots of WARM DX7 rhodes and sampled vocals. Also, teary eyes and lots of golden jewelry on the cover - Real boogie feelings!

5. Freddie James - Don't turn your back on love - Arista, 1982 This one has a really great baseline and some really lovely guitar work. And Freddie's vocal is nice and strange as always. You have to mix out of it quickly before a really, really terrible and happy bridge comes in. Which I did. You're welcome!
6. Major Harris - Gotta make up your mind (Vocal) - Streetwave, 1984 The DEFINITION of hand claps and the definition of 80s boogie slap bass and synth bass coordination. "Girl, there ain't no way / that it takes all day / to decide if you want to try me!"
7. Gwen Pressley and Portable Patrol - Running - Aerial, 1984 Great congas and great hollow bass sound. And great horns. Just great, basically.
8. Rainy Davis - Lowdon so and so - Columbia, 1986 DOPE new-jack-ish track from The Hot new Singer, that brought you the Smash Hit "Sweetheart". But she also kind of has a scary stalker thing going on, calling up her ex's new honeys. Live and let live, Rainy!
9. Jennifer Holliday - Just let me wait - Geffen, 1983 Modern soul BANGER! The chorus is soooooo goooood! And sweet synth solo. Heeey, hey, heeey, hey, HEY!
10. Captain Rapp - Bad times (I can't stand it) (Part 2) - Becket. 1983 This version actually doesn't feature the captain. Great overdriven, dirty drums and great house-y vocals. There is a FUNKY synth and drum breakdown towards the end of the track!
11. Colonel Abrams - I'm not gonna let you (Extended mix) - MCA, 1986 This post-post-disco track is basically a house track, and it's a CLASSIC!
